"IT'S NOT ABOUT BEING THE BEST...
IT'S ABOUT DOING YOUR BEST!"
Hawai'i is lucky to have so many talented young people who are passionate about their love of the stage! There are many great programs that offer students opportunities to learn skills in the area of singing, acting and/or dancing. PAPA has been fortunate to work with many of these talented youths and helped to create many lifelong memories. We will NOT promise to make your child a superstar nor encourage that as a goal. We work on building relationships, making positive choices and the students' integrity that goes beyond the stage and strive for excellence in their daily lives as well as onstage. Once this community is built, the production and creative process is able to flourish and thrive. This is the basis of learning here at PAPA. Everything else - like our award-winning performances and tours - makes it even more worthwhile. Become part of our 'ohana today!
Since 2007, we have built our program around our motto to: ...empower, engage, educate... With these three values, each member of PAPA will be prepared to conquer their dreams, both on and off the stage.
To ensure a safe and productive environment where youth can find and cultivate their love of performing arts and learn respect for themselves and others.
We want the students to enjoy the theatre experience and understand the whole production process. What helps to set us apart from other groups is our commitment to the development of the character of the student offstage. Our main goal is not to create great performers. Rather, we encourage students to explore their talents and teach them lessons they can apply to the stage and to life. Students will also learn self-confidence, responsibility, teamwork, leadership skills and the fun that theatre can bring into their lives.
Meeting Department of Education Benchmarks
Students will not only have a fun experience being a part of PAPA, but they will also be positive Community Contributors, responsible Self-Directed Learners, be Quality Producers in their performances and rehearsals and become Effective Communicators. Participants will also be called upon to be Complex Thinkers and will be taught how to be Effective and Ethical Users of Technology. As a “hands-on” program, students will learn skills that will help them all year round!
Our Goals for our 2014 Season
As we enter our exciting eighth year, our goals continue to be: do a great job and have fun doing it! We would like students to walk away with a positive and memorable experience, new friendships and a sense of respect for performing arts, both on-stage and behind-the-scenes. For returning students, we would like them to continue to build on the skills they have developed in previous years and to encourage growth by adding new members to our PAPA 'Ohana!
We are also working on several partnerships within the community so our performers learn the value of giving back to those who are in need. These partnerships include but not limited to: The Hawai'i Literacy Foundation, The Alana Dung Research Foundation, The Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center, The Hawai'i Bone Marrow Donor Registry, The Ronald McDonald House of Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Children's Hospital, Ann Pearl Nursing Facility with more to come.
